The NSW Council for Intellectual Disability (NSW CID) is funded, primarily through the Department of Ageing, Disability and Home Care (DADHC), to represent the rights and interest of people with intellectual disability in NSW.

Our beliefs

We believe people with intellectual disability have the same rights as other citizens. Our work involves consulting and capacity building with people with intellectual disability and their families, providing policy advice and working at systemic level to effect positive change in people’s lives.

Our Style

Our advocacy style is to engage constructively with governments and other agencies. We operate the ASK CID information service that incorporates a telephone information line, community education and the Jim McLoughlin Library, which are available to our members and others in the community.

Our promise

We undertake all of our work with the active participation of people with intellectual disability and work to enhance the meaningful participation of people with intellectual disability in their communities.
