The NSW Council for Intellectual Disability (NSW CID) believes that people with intellectual disability are the experts about their own lives. We believe that people with intellectual disability have the same rights and responsibilities as other members of the community. This is the cornerstone of all our work. All our work aims to support and encourage people to have their say and be heard, and we actively facilitate leadership opportunities for people with intellectual disability in all activities we undertake. NSW CID believes people with intellectual disability have the same right to participate equally in the activities of their local communities and we advocate for this. When we use the word, participation, we are speaking about the meaningful participation of people with intellectual disability in all facets of our organisation and in community life. |
