The ‘Living Stories’ publication is a collection of stories told by people with intellectual disability or a family member when the person was unable to speak for themselves. Many of the stories tell of people who have lived most of their lives in institutions and whose lives have been transformed by moving into the community. Others still live or work in some form of congregate setting. These powerful stories document the resourcefulness, tenacity, and optimism required of people with intellectual disability to live independent lives in their communities. The NSW Council for Intellectual Disability (NSW CID) is inspired by all participants in this project. Our policy direction in terms of accommodation is directed by the true experts – people who have lived in an institutional setting and now live in the community. Living Stories is available for $6.60 (including postage and GST). To order a copy please contact us or click on the link below. |
