How do I become a member of NSW CID?
To join NSW CID there are 2 steps.
The 2 steps are:
- agree with our constitution and
- fill in an application form.
What is a constitution?
A constitution is a set of rules NSW CID must follow.
What does NSW CID’s constitution talk about?
Our constitution talks about:
What NSW CID believes in
what NSW CID wants to do
How NSW CID should be run.
Any person or organisation who agrees with our constitution can become a member of NSW CID.
What do I do to join NSW CID?
There are 4 steps in joining NSW CID.
The 4 steps are:
- you should get a copy of the membership form
- you should read our constitution
- you should fill out the form and
- you should send the form to NSW CID.
What happens when I join NSW CID?
You will receive newsletters and information in the mail.
You can vote at our Annual General Meeting.
You can also be involved in our Speak Out Reach Out committee.
What happens to my private details?
Your name and address is kept private.
No one will see it except staff at NSW CID when they are sending you newsletters.
Are there different types of membership?
Yes. There are 4 different types of membership
1. Individual membership for people with intellectual disability
People with intellectual disability can join NSW CID for free.
You get all the same information as other members but you do not have to pay.
If you join NSW CID you can nominate for our Board.

2. Individual membership
Anyone can join NSW CID as long as they agree with our constitution.
Some of our individual members are family members of people with intellectual disability, carers, students, and professionals.
Individual members can nominate for our Board of Directors.

3. Organisational membership
Any organisation can join NSW CID as long as they agree with our constitution and are not a government body.
We do check that the work of the organisation does not go against our Constitution.
Organisational members can not be on the Board of Directors.

4. Subscriber
A subscriber pays NSW CID money to have information sent to them.
Subscribers can not vote.
Subscribers cannot be on the Board of Directors.
Our subscribers are government departments.
